The Awakening

Olivia Kotze · 21 chapters · First edition 2026

A humiliating photo hits the group chat, and eleven-year-old MJ Anderson does what she has always done: she makes herself smaller. She comes home quiet. She is not ready to talk.

That night her mum presses an old family notebook into her hands. A tree is carved into the cover. It was hers, and her mother’s, and her mother’s before that. “The more you use it,” she says, “the more you will find your glow.”

That night the book feels warm. A doodle she drew years ago appears in the pages of the book and comes to life as Scribble. As different feelings rise, different Glow Friends appear to meet them, each one offering guidance that helps MJ understand what the feeling means and what she can do to help herself. Feelings become books. Truths become doorways. And every small step MJ takes helps her deal with her emotions.

It’s a reality that every child lives every day, turned into a magical story filled with Shades as feelings and a pendant that helps her hold her own glow. The real battle is quieter than any fight. MJ learns to name what hurts, to choose one good thing on purpose, and, hardest of all, to hold her own joy when someone else’s disappointment grows a shadow of its own.

By the final page something has already noticed her, and the story is only just beginning.
